Biography - ARNOLD GODWIN

Arnold Godwin is well known as a Preacher, Pastor, Singer
Songwriter and Recording Artist.  His singing is recognized by his
distinct, smooth, pop-style, baritone voice.  He began singing
early in life and was influenced by the big band singers such as
Frank Sinatra, Dick Haymes, Bob and Ray Eberle, Perry Como
and others.  He first sang pop with bands and combos in his teens
and upon his graduation and conversion, decided to go into
gospel music instead of secular.  Early in His ministry, He turned
down offers from Sun Records, Capitol Records, Chess and
Checker Records because they wanted him to sing pop, rock and
Roll and Rhythm and Blues, but not Gospel.

His first professional job as a Quartet singer was with “Horace
Floyd and the Sunny South Quartet”  This was one of the top Quartets
of the day and had featured such singers as James Wetherington,
J. D. Sumner, Jake Hess,  Mosie Lister, Lee Kitchens and Others.

After a while, He decided to go to Lee University and sing with
The Official representative quartet, The “Continental Quartet”
Which was made up of former professional singers, A. T. Humpheries
(manager and professor), Harvey Hudson, Ted Pendleton, and Arnold.
They performed in churches and in concerts with all of the major
Quartets and singing groups, promoting Lee.

After graduation, He was a part of the “Kingsmen Quartet” made up
of Horace Mauldin, Joe Anderson, Paul Hodo, Ted Pendleton,
Leon Ellis and Arnold. They were a super Quartet and were offered
Recording contracts by King Records, a major label at the time and
Also Sun Records who was one of the Hottest independent Labels of
The day.  The draft broke the group up at the height of their career.
He has turned down offers to sing with other major groups, Rebels,
Speers, and others, preferring to stay with His ministry.

Arnold then went into the Evangelism Ministry, traveling all over
The country Preaching and singing.  He had started recording with
The Continental Quartet and continued recording as a solo ministry.

He was appointed Pastor of a church after eight years of evangelist
Ministry and continued as Pastor of one church for twenty two
Years and watched it grow from a hundred to over seven hundred.
He continued to record during this time.

He was then involved in administrative work as State Evangelism
and Missions Director for eight years. He also pastored a church
for two years in between the eight years.  The church had
phenomenal growth.

He went back into the Evangelism Ministry and has remained there
till now, traveling, singing and preaching.  Through the years, He
has been in demand as a revival and campmeeting singer and
speaker as well as a concert artist.

For four years He served on the General Music Board for the
Church of God and served many years as a member of the
Tennessee Music song selection committee and as staff
Songwriter. He has had over 40 recordings of His songs by such
Artist as the Speers, Harmoneers, Spurlows, Southern Sound
Quartet and others.

Arnold has recorded many singles, albums, tapes and CD’s.  He
has recorded for Pathway Records, Pulpit Records, Worship Records,
Image Records, ATG Records and the Eddie Crook Recording
Company.  His last several projects have been arranged by
and produced by Steve W. Mauldin, one of Nashville's top award
winning arranger and producer. Vocals have been arranged by
Russell Mauldin, well known Nashville arranger, producer, writer,
And backup singer and contractor.
